Hidden Object Games - Typos, Grammar & Other Item Issues

Postby verkon » Thu Nov 20, 2014 4:40 am

Threads for these things pop up every so often, so I might as well make a thread to consolidate them :)

Sometimes objects in the hidden object games aren't perfect. If you come across any that include...

- wonky grammar
- typos
- singular/plural issues (ie. a whole box of rolls that's just described as "roll")
- obviously wrong names (ie. a teapot that looks like a beer stein)
- duplicate item names in the same puzzle (ie. two salamanders)

... feel free to post them here, and I will do my best to fix them up as best as possible. No one likes bad spelling and grammar! And wrong names for items can be incredibly frustrating. Post the object name and/or riddle description, as well as the factory, and I will do my best to find them.

Note: I will not fix riddles just because they are "hard" or "don't make sense" (some riddles reference some pretty obscure things), but if you find something that is questionable for grammatical reasons or, in rare cases, matters of appropriateness (I recall a bit of an uproar about the rolling pin being used to settle spousal disagreements), I will take them into consideration.

Disclaimer: Most of the changes don't take effect immediately. They'll be changed in the translation files, but they don't get uploaded to the live server instantly. It usually takes a patch or other small game update to be reflected in the live version.

Two umbrellas in the Circus

Postby Ragingfriar » Mon Nov 24, 2014 9:54 pm

There are two different objects named umbrella in the Circus.

Spoiler:
Spoiler:

I don't know enough about umbrellas to know if they even have different denominations, but I guess we could go with open and closed if there is no better alternative.

...

On a side note:

This came up in another thread and dunno if it qualifies for an "obviously wrong name", but the "three yellow marble plates" in the Stonemason might be better called "three yellow marble slabs", as they are rather thicker than what a plate would be. According to me at least.

Anyway, nice of you to make this thread. It's definitely cleanlier to have this stuff in a single thread.

Not a Mantis

Postby Ragingfriar » Tue Nov 25, 2014 12:07 am

Ok, this one definitely has an obviously wrong name.

There is an alleged "mantis" in the tournament field, but it's actually the same locust we've been seeing all over Uptasia. I can somehow understand how the mistake was made. If you look at it tail for head, and let the pixels fool you, it might somehow resemble a mantis, but it isn't one. It could be a grasshopper or cricket (or not? I'm not an entomologist), but definitely not a mantis.

Thank you :D

The Umbrellas in the Circus are now a "Small Pink Umbrella" and a "Red Umbrella;" the critter on the Sports Field is now a "Grasshopper" (I don't particularly think it looks like a mantis, but then again, I have seen far too many mantises in my life). Anyhoo. Fixed!

Keep 'em coming!

I have to say that I'm not very sure about this - not being a native English speaker - so this is more of an inquiry than a bug report, but the 'musette' in the instrument maker puzzles confuses me. According to the definitions I found, it's 'a small bagpipe formerly in use, having a soft and sweet tone', or 'a small bagpipe formerly popular in France'. Google image search also provides images of bagpipes (though I can't tell if they're small or not ;) ), alternatively some music notes. And yet it turned out to be this:

Spoiler:

Like I said, English isn't my first language, and I'm not a specialist when it comes to musical instruments even in my native language, so maybe it is called a musette and I'm just silly - so, yeah. Just asking.

Also, a very small thing, but in the instrument maker, too, there's an item called "moil chisel", which led me to believe that it was a singular item at first. It turned out to be a set of four chisels kind of joined together (incidentally, they're visible under the supposed musette in the picture above). ;)

Hm. It looks like the mysterious instrument is supposed to be a piccolo oboe (musette in German can refer to those); however, while educating myself about various woodwinds and related instruments, I came across something that fits even better: a shawm (yeah, I doubt anyone will recognize that either, but if you google it, you'll have a good idea what you're looking for.

The chisels will now be a Chisel Set.

Oh, and for some reason I overlooked the marble slabs last time. Fixed those too ;)

In the pharmacy, there's a tab that is blank every so often. Through a "whole lotta clicking", it seems to be the two-tone pink pill capsules. Many thanks, deekal

Hi Verkon =)

I've found a buterfly in the fruit orchard, "search" game ID: 659.
I imagine the poor little beast trying to fly with one wing only :D
